Where are my sightings stored?

Only on your device. There's no cloud sync yet, so deleting the app deletes them too.

Why don't some birds have a photo or song?

We only use photos and recordings under open licenses (CC BY or CC0). For now about 300 of the more than 1,700 species have media, and we add more with every version.

Why are bird names shown in English and Portuguese?

When your iPhone is not set to Portuguese, Piu shows each bird's English name with its Brazilian Portuguese name underneath — handy when talking to local guides. Search works with English, Portuguese and scientific names.

Does the app identify birds by their song?

Not yet. We're working on it for a future version.

How does the app use my location?

Only when you tap "Use my location" or take a photo with the app's camera before choosing a place; a library photo with a location uses the photo's own location. The app keeps the city, the state and the exact point, only on your device. See the privacy policy.

How do I turn off usage data?

In My list, tap the gear and turn off "Share anonymous usage data".
